I’ve been vegan for several years now and, let me tell you, restaurants in London have gotten SO GOOD about veganism. It’s been a long time since I’ve been somewhere that doesn’t have at least one vegan option (even at steakhouses!) and many restaurants now have completely separate vegan and vegetarian menus. That being said, if you want some proper vegan comfort food, your best bet is to go to a totally vegan or vegetarian restaurant.
Sadly, some of my favourites have recently closed, but there are still plenty to choose from!
Rudy’s is a staple of Camden market and they have possibly THE BEST vegan fried chicken burgers (which is one of the reasons I've put it top on my list of the best vegan restaurants London has to offer). Their cheesy fries are also amazing. It is my go-to for takeaway these days as it’s one of the few places that actually still tastes amazing when you get it delivered.
The owners also recently launched a vegan butcher with MASSIVE success which is fun!

Buffalo burger and cheezy fries
Purezza is another staple of my takeaway (and dine-in!) rotation. They are also in Camden (and Brighton!) and even won a non-vegan Italian pizza contest. Their vegan cheese is one of the only ones I can stomach for an entire pizza without it starting to taste weird. They also have super delicious cocktails 🥂.

Truffle pizza and cheesy dough balls
Okay, I’m going to stop exposing myself for how much I used to order Deliveroo. What the Pitta is another place that won a contest—in this case a kebab one—against meaty competition. They serve all kinds of kebabs and their baklava is to die for.
Camden + Shoreditch
Mezze box with kebab ‘meat’ and vegan baklava
Young vegans is another mainstay of Camden market and serves vegan pies. It’s also probably the most affordable option on this list. They haven’t been on Deliveroo in a while due to the pandemic, but they’re still taking online orders and it looks like they’re now doing pizza too! It’s vegan comfort food at its finest!
Camden
When their shop in Camden is open, they do a pie, side, drink and dessert deal for something like £12. I’d recommend the cheeseburger pie, either mash or mac n cheese as a side, and basically any of the desserts I’ve tried (though I think the apple pie is my favourite if they have it).
Temple of Seitan is one of the OG vegan junk food shops. Originally only in Hackney, they now have a shop in Camden as well. They serve vegan fried chicken, burgers, and, of course, mac and cheese!
Hackney + Camden
I’m partial to the temple burger and the mac and cheese.
Imported from New York, By Chloe is another vegan junk food masterpiece. They’ve also started doing a bottomless brunch that I’m keen to try! They have three locations in London now and serve breakfast and lunch/dinner.
Covent Garden, Tower Bridge, Greenwich
Quinoa taco salad and mac n’ cheese (plus a cupcake for dessert if you have room!)
Genesis prides itself on serving healthier junk food—all their meals are packed with veg but are still super tasty. And they’ve got great cocktails (including some with CBD oil)! Their website is also super cool!
Shoreditch
Nachos! (and any of the cocktails!)
Farmacy is a Notting Hill staple well known for its brunch (though I’ve never managed to get a brunch reservation). The atmosphere is really nice and they’ve got a pretty big menu with everything from chickpea ‘omelettes’ to Mexican dishes! They also serve fancy CBD cocktails.

Truffle mac n’ cheese and a ‘There’s Something about Mary’ cocktail
I used to order from Essential Vegan TONNES when I worked late at my old job (when they had a Shoreditch location). They serve vegan Brazilian food. It’s delicious and something different from the other vegan junk food on this list.
Dalston
Brazilian cheese bread, Brazilian coxinha, essential burger
Manna is one of the oldest vegetarian (now vegan!) restaurants in London. My friend took me here as a birthday surprise one year and it was great! Nestled in Primrose Hill, it’s also got a lovely atmosphere!
